mind the gap

This challenging triangular site in Hackney, London, presented a unique opportunity to create a dynamic development that was commercially viable through its simplicity of form. Christened with a cheeky nod to its neighbour, Hackney Station, the development has an instant identity, allowing people to easily orientate themselves in the City. The principle elevation draws on the elegant rhythm of the historic buildings that line the City’s main carriageways. At ground floor, an interactive frontage is created, at an appropriate scale for passers by. Here, the cladding wraps around, guiding people towards the station at one end and into the central courtyard at the other, where again, an active frontage at ground floor and quality hard landscaping will create a bustling urban space. Having received positive feedback from Railtrack, the scheme is on hold indefinitely due to potential major works to the underground system, affecting the site.
