This week we received outline planning approval for a large residential scheme situated on Scotland Road in Carnforth.
The complex scheme was designed to include 213 residential dwellings set alongside a large area of public open space, protected and enhanced wetlands located below the River Keer and various associated pedestrian routes across the site.
The detailed scheme was created by Niemen Architects in conjunction with landscape consultant Urban Wilderness. The scheme included associated landscaping, protected priority habitat and enhanced Coastal and Floodplain Grazing Marsh, alongside large areas of public open space, set against and integrated into the developable area of the scheme, all linked through a series of public footpaths connecting into the landscape.
With a significant zone of Coastal and Floodplain Grazing Marsh set against flood zones 2 & 3, the challenging scheme involved detailed considerations of the surrounding environment throughout the site design development, and was produced through careful negotiations with the planning authority.
